Labor’s service failures leave seniors paying the price

The Canberra Liberals will hold a Seniors Community Forum next month to give older Canberrans a direct voice on the issues that matter most to them.

Canberra Liberals Leader Mark Parton said older residents deserved to be heard amid declining services and rising costs.

“Labor’s budget failures aren’t just numbers on a spreadsheet, they’re showing up in reduced services, delayed maintenance and declining neighbourhood amenity,” Mr Parton said.

“Older Canberrans deserve to know someone is listening, standing up for them and holding this Government to account.”

Shadow Minister for Seniors Peter Cain MLA said the forum would address growing concerns about cuts to services seniors rely on.

“Whether it’s library hours being cut, community fitness programs reduced, changes to bus routes, waiting weeks for streetlights to be repaired, worries about safety due to increased crime, or struggling to access basic government services, too many seniors feel they are being asked to accept less,” Mr Cain said.

“After years of financial mismanagement, Canberrans are seeing more cuts, more delays and fewer services. Unfortunately, older Canberrans are increasingly the ones paying the price.”
